You are entitled to be compensated for your duties performed as Personal Representative and as Trustee, but you are also cloaked with fiduciary duties to the beneficiaries of the decedent to preserve and protect the decedent's assets.

Estate planning is a generic term which describes the legal process of formulating and implementing a plan to manage your assets upon your death or incapacity.
The first step in formulating a plan is for an individual to disclose to their estate planning attorney the extent and nature of their assets, which includes all checking and saving accounts, IRA's, 401(k)'s or other retirement plans, life insurance policies, interests in all businesses, all real property, all valuable personal property and to disclose information about your intended beneficiaries and whether there are any special circumstances pertaining to those persons.
Medicaid is a federal program which is administered by each of the States.

In Florida, eligibility for Medicaid coverage is determined by the asset and income levels of both the "well-spouse (i.e., non-sick)" and the applicant spouse.
If either the Medicaid applicant or the applicant's spouse has income or asset levels that disqualify them from receiving Medicaid benefits, then there are a multitude of planning strategies that can be done to qualify you for Medicaid benefits without spending down your assets or spending all of your savings on the nursing home.
