In the State of Ohio, there are two ways to terminate a marriage: by way of dissolution or divorce.

The parties memorialize their agreement in a Separation Agreement which is then filed with the Court.
In a divorce, the parties are unable to reach an agreement on any one of the aforementioned issues and seek the Court's assistance to resolve the division of assets and liabilities, child custody and support issues.
