Services
After being sworn in as a member of the Indiana bar in 1997, Mike gained acclaim in the local legal community when, in his first career jury trial, he obtained a not guilty verdict for an indigent client accused of felony criminal recklessness.
In 1999, he successfully appealed a client's drug dealing conviction, arguing the police had unlawfully obtained the evidence used against his client at trial.
The Indiana Court of Appeals agreed, and Mike's client was set free.
Although Mike spent considerable time handling criminal defense work early in his career, he also served clients in many other areas of law, including personal injury, wills/estates, family law (divorce, child support, child custody, etc.), and small claims.
Being arrested and/or being charged with a crime can be scary.
Michael P. DeArmitt has devoted the vast majority of his 17+ year career to handling criminal cases.
Having served as both a defense attorney and as a deputy prosecuting attorney, he is uniquely positioned to identify legal and factual issues in your case.
Mike has tried numerous cases before juries and is never afraid to take your case to trial.
However, Mike also understands that trial may not always be in your best interests, and in such cases Mike can often best represent you by negotiating a plea agreement.
A conviction for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI or DUI) can carry significant legal and practical consequences.
Michael P. DeArmitt has handled hundreds of OWI cases in his legal career.
He understands the legal standards the police must meet in order to pull you over, as well as the rules the police are supposed to follow in administering field sobriety tests and/or a certified chemical test (such as the certified breath test they give someone at the police station).
If the police fail to meet these standards your case might be subject to dismissal, or a judge could rule out certain evidence against you at trial.
Recent changes in Indiana law may make it possible for you to legally drive again, even if you previously have been ineligible to get your license back.
Contact me to schedule an appointment for a free* consultation to see if you may be eligible for Specialized Driving Privileges.
You may be required to pay a nominal cost for obtaining a copy of your driving record so that I can better evaluate your eligibility.
