It was a wonderful celebration, especially since it was our first in person event in almost a year. On that day, I could feel the excitement and joy of all those around me, and I knew the energy I felt on that day would propel us into a wonderful year.

As many of you know, D.A.W.L. is a bar association focused on promoting and fostering the interests of women lawyers, encouraging a spirit of friendship and helpfulness, and maintaining the honor and dignity of the profession. A D.A.W.L. membership provides value to you through discounted admission to D.A.W.L. events, invitations to special "members only" events, and connection to a network of outstanding attorneys and legal professionals.

D.A.W.L. events typically include a Veteran's Day luncheon and Continuing Legal Education co-hosted with the DuPage County Bar Association, a Joint Holiday Party with the DuPage County Bar Association and the DuPage Justinian Society of Lawyers, Judicial Reception, Installation, and networking events.

The DuPage Association of Women Lawyers (D.A.W.L.) was formed in 1980 when the Honorable Helen C. Kinney, DuPage County's first female Assistant States Attorney and first female Judge, called the small number of women then practicing law in the county into her courtroom for a gathering.
The Association formally incorporated in the year 1982 and has grown into an organization of women and men, lawyers and non-lawyers, who reside and work throughout Northern Illinois.
The Association is large enough to have an active voice in the community, yet small enough to ensure the close connection between its members.
Victoria (Vicki) Kelly takes great pride in navigating her clients through complicated family law issues.
She attended Quincy University for her undergraduate, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Finance.
She also played on the softball team at Quincy.
She then earned her Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University.
Vicki is a Partner at Grunyk Family Law located in Naperville, Illinois.
Melissa is a graduate of University of Madison-Wisconsin with a degree in Journalism.
She received her Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School in 2008.
The need for financial assistance for our current and recently graduated law students has never been greater.
Below are some sobering statistics on the current graduate and law school debt crisis.
These statistics beg the question; "what will become of our future lawyers when they are buried in debt with no way to pay back what they borrowed?"
Forty-three percent of all 2013 law school graduates did not have long-term full-time legal jobs nine months after graduation, and the numbers are only getting worse.
In order to honor the memory, vision and leadership of Judge Helen C. Kinney, the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers has created the Judge Helen C. Kinney Scholarship.
Judge Kinney was truly a leader for women in DuPage County.
Judge Kinney was the first woman appointed to the bench in DuPage County.
She was subsequently elected to be the first woman circuit judge, and sat as the Presiding Judge of the Civil Division.
Prior to her time on the bench she practiced in the private sector, clerked for a Justice of the Second District Appellate Court and was the first female Assistant States Attorney for DuPage County.
In order to honor the memory of Ashley M. Haws, the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers, together with Davi Law Group, LLC, created the Ashley M. Haws Memorial Scholarship.
Ashley M. Haws was a rising star in the DuPage County legal community who provided fearless legal representation for her family law clients as an Associate Attorney at Davi Law Group, LLC.
She was an intelligent, fun-loving, and caring young woman.
She was Treasurer of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers and an active member of numerous bar associations.
