Founded in 1976, we are a firm of eighteen attorneys with total personnel of fifty and a combined excess of two hundred and fifty years of experience in civil litigation, trial, and appellate practice. WILLIAM H. MERGNER, JR., graduated from the Catholic University of America Magna Cum Laude in 1982.
He received his Juris Doctor from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1985.
He became associated with the firm following graduation and subsequently has become a partner in the firm, currently serving as co-managing partner.
Since joining the firm, he has been involved in daily trial work, having tried in excess of two hundred jury trials to verdict in state and federal courts in New Jersey.
MARK BONGIOVANNI joined the firm in 1988 and is currently serving as its co-managing partner.
He has tried in excess of 150 jury trials to verdict.
His practice encompasses an extensive case load, including multi-party construction defect claims involving breach of contract, risk transfer, code violations, fraud, NJCFA, and insurance coverage issues.
He also handles complex cases in the areas of products liability, wrongful death, trucking and transportation liability, environmental and toxic tort claims, professional malpractice, and wrongful termination.
He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1979 from Seton Hall University and his Law Degree from its School of Law in 1982.
He served a judicial clerkship for the Honorable Robert Gaynor, Superior Court of New Jersey, Somerset County and, thereafter, joined a general practice firm for one year.
Since joining our firm, where he is now a partner, he has been engaged in all aspects of the defense of litigation, having tried many and varied cases to conclusion.
These include defense of engineers, oral surgeons, insurance brokers, automobile operators, commercial and residential property owners, as well as the manufacturers of various products.
DAVID J. DERING graduated from the Honors Program at Boston College in 1992 and received his Juris Doctor Degree from the Boston University School of Law in 1995.
While attending law school, he was Appellate Moot Court Director, represented the school in the ABA Mock Trial Competition, and served as a Student Assistant District Attorney for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Following his graduation, he served a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Christopher Dietz, a Superior Court Judge in Union County, New Jersey.
BRIAN PEOPLES joined the firm in 1990 and is currently a partner.
He attended Seton Hall University where he successfully completed the Criminal Justice Program of Study in 1986, graduating in the Top 10% of his class and earning Magna Cum Laude Honors.
Thereafter, he attended Seton Hall University School of Law, where he again received High Honors, graduating Cum Laude in 1990.
During his distinguished legal career with the firm, Mr. Peoples has successfully litigated cases involving the defense of a variety of claims including construction defect, environmental/toxic tort, construction worksite accidents, premises liability, auto accidents, UM/UIM, PIP, insurance coverage, and workers compensation.
