The duties of the District Attorney are designated by the Georgia General Assembly and are outlined in the Official Code of Georgia (O.C.G.A. § 15-18-6). The District Attorney is required to attend all sessions of the Superior Courts within our circuit to process and dispose of the business of the State. The District Attorney must administer required oaths to the grand and trial jurors, bailiffs and other officers of the court, advise the grand juries in relation to matters of law.
The District Attorney screens and prepares all Indictments taken before the grand jury. While the above-listed duties are bestowed upon the District Attorney by statute, the actual list of responsibilities is much longer. The list below is not exhaustive.

In addition, the Pike and Upson offices prosecute misdemeanors, as they do not have a separate State Court.

The right to reasonable, accurate, and timely notice of any scheduled court proceedings or any changes to such proceedings;.
The right to reasonable, accurate, and timely notice of the arrest, release, or escape of the accused;.
