At Rosen Moss Snyder LLP, we regularly represent clients who have worked for a considerable number of years until ultimately being diagnosed with a disabling medical condition that impedes their ability to continue working.

If you suffer from a serious disability or illness that prevents you from performing the ordinary tasks of your job, long-term disability benefits are supposed to be put in place to supplement a portion of your income for a certain period of time, depending on the policy and the duration of the disability.
Some employers offer these long-term benefits; however, certain policies can be purchased privately, as well.
Unfortunately, some insurance companies may deny or prematurely terminate long-term benefits, causing families tremendous financial difficulties.
If you become temporarily disabled, short-term disability is intended to act as a partial income replacement until you are able to return to work.
In many cases, short-term disability is a benefit offered and paid for by employers, although individual policies can also be purchased independently.
When an employee in North Jersey or anywhere else in the Greater Philadelphia area becomes sick or injured and is unable to work for a short period of time, short-term disability could kick in once all sick leave has been used.
A person can purchase disability coverage from an insurance company or on their own.
If your employer does not provide disability insurance benefits, or you are a self-employed individual who needs disability coverage, you can purchase your own policy on the open market.
Individual rates or premiums are based upon a wide variety of factors, including age, gender, health risks, pre-existing conditions, occupation, scope of coverage, benefit duration, and benefit amount.
These are individually underwritten private disability policies and are not governed by ERISA but rather by traditional state contract law.
