Though not espousing a particular tradition, this firm is a place of faith. This is a place where faith may be freely expressed. God willing, this is a place where faith may grow, despite the sometimes painful reality of the imperfection of human beings, the deterioration of human minds and the impermanence of human bodies.
Our mission is to offer compassionate, individual attention and respect, as well as legal and fiduciary services second to none, in the areas of estate administration, estate planning, probate of estates, conservatorships and other planning for aging, infirmity and death. In its fiduciary work, this firm provides integrity in managing the affairs of the elderly and infirm, and closure to families who might not otherwise reach it.
We seek to provide individual attention and concern. Because we do not produce "cookie cutter" plans, we do not attempt to match or better the fees of other attorneys' offices, and we do not provide "review only" legal work. We have limited experience in areas other than estate administration, estate planning, and probate law (including conservatorships), and we do not attempt to provide legal services outside these areas.

Services
In every aspect of the practice, Ms. Horton is committed to detail, compassionate service and the comfort level of her clients.
The firm began as a general office practice.
However, over the years Ms. Horton's experience in elder law and estate planning as well as her excellent reputation in the local Probate Court, have made it natural that the practice focus on probate, estate planning and elder law.
Ms. Horton is one of only a few lawyers in Greenville who will accept appointment as a fiduciary, and she has served as court-appointed Guardian, Conservator and Personal Representative in situations where the families could not so serve.

Only in emergency situations will we prepare documents until we have met the client face to face.
We never allow a person to sign a document when Ms. Horton has not met directly with that client.
We like to meet with a client and discuss his or her situation face to face and in person so that a level of individual rapport can be developed and we can begin to understand your concerns and issues.
Estate planning is not exclusively about the transfer of wealth.
So much more goes into it.
We take into consideration what you tell us about your children's or other fiduciaries' personalities, how they handle money, what their problems might be, what your concerns are, and whether they would use a position of trust to control or influence their siblings or other relatives.

If your parent, spouse, or other close loved one has developed dementia or some other incapacity which would make it beneficial for someone other than that person to manage his or her affairs, Ms. Horton has extensive experience in entering the arena of the court system to get court authorization for another person to manage an adult's affairs.
In South Carolina, the word "Conservatorship" refers to management of money and other property for the benefit of an incompetent minor or adult.
Ms. Horton's practice has focused on the establishment of Conservatorships for elderly or otherwise incapacitated adults for the entire time that her practice has been open, and much of the time that she practiced with other lawyers in Texas and in South Carolina.

In some situations, such as when the surviving spouse is frail or when the executor lives out of state and has a heavy schedule, our office is happy to provide fiduciary services, serving as Conservator or Guardian of an incapacitated adult, or as Personal Representative of an estate.
We take these assignments only when we believe that they are in the client's best interest for economic or emotional reasons.
When our firm would be an economically infeasible choice, we would refer a client who needed fiduciary services to other persons or entities.
