Carlos was born in Havana, Cuba, and grew up in Chicago. He graduated from IIT/Chicago Kent College of Law, in 1982, with High Honors. He also attended New York University School of Law, in New York City, where he obtained a Master's Degree in Tax Law, in 1983. He also served as a summer intern with the IRS in Washington, D.C., and as a law clerk for a federal judge.
Carlos is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, and of the following Section Councils: Business Advice & Financial Planning; Business & Securities Law; Trusts & Estates; Elder Law; Federal Taxation; State & Local Taxation, and Real Estate. He is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association, the Latin American Chamber of Commerce, and the Evanston Chamber of Commerce.
Carlos contributes to the community by serving as general counsel for several community and professional organizations. He was also one of the founders, and an instructor, for a course on starting your own business, for minority and women entrepreneurs.
