Phillip Ellis was raised near the Kisatchie National Forest in east central Claiborne Parish.
He attended Cedar Creek High School in Ruston and graduated in 2005.
Phillip obtained a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2009 with cum laude honors.
Phillip then pursued a career in law enforcement with the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office, where he served as a correctional deputy at the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center near Minden, Louisiana.
While there, he served as an officer for both the Moot Court Board and Law Review and worked a research assistant for (then) Professor Patricia Bennett (now Dean of Mississippi College School of Law).
