Michael went on to graduate from the University of Michigan, and then attended the Thomas M Cooley Law School where he served as class president.
While in law school Michael clerked for the State Appellate Defenders Office researching and writing criminal appeals to the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.
