Law At Last
I am a solo practitioner focused on the areas of Probate (Decedent Estates & Guardianship), Estate Planning and limited Real Estate as I represent sellers only. I assist individuals in making their transition from this life smoother for the loved ones they leave behind; as well as assisting those left behind to settle their deceased loved ones' affairs with dignity.

I take a personal approach with my clients. I tend to think it is important that people feel listened to and cared for. I personally believe choosing an attorney to represent you has just as much to do with that feeling you get in your gut once you have completed your consultation as much as with the attorney's qualifications and experience. You are interviewing me and I am interviewing you as well.

After that initial consultation, we may decide we are not a good fit to work together; but, it is my hope that you will have still felt listened to and cared for. I am even willing - if able - to refer you on to an attorney which I might think is a more suitable fit for you.
Services
I was born and raised in Illinois.
I submitted to my calling as an estate planning and probate attorney after serving my country as a Special Agent with the FBI for 10 years.
I became an estate planning and probate attorney after a close call with my own death.
I realized afterwards that I had no plan in place to take care of my loved ones and help them move forward.
Please call our office(s) to get learn how we are engaging with current clients and new at this time.
An event that occurred during the period of incapacitation discussed in my website profile planted the seed for this work I now engage in - and also birthed my company tagline, Get a Plan for your Life.
I was undergoing a surgery and I coded on the operating table.
The surgeon and team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 20 minutes but were unsuccessful in bringing me back.
They then shocked me three (3) times with electric paddles, but still without success.
At this point they chose to cover me with ice and induce therapeutic hypothermia.
A will, sometimes called a Last Will and Testament, is a written legal document that outlines what you want to happen to your "stuff" when you die - your personal and real property.
Your will names someone, your executor, to make sure your wishes are carried out when you die as you instructed in your written document.
A will is fully changeable (revocable) while you are alive.
While alive, you may change it as often as you desire and/or feel necessary.
Your will becomes legally binding, unchangeable (irrevocable) only upon your death.
Probate is the first step in the legal process of taking care of your deceased loved one's affairs.
In Cook County, Illinois, probate court is held in the Richard J. Daley Center located at 50 W. Washington Street, Chicago, Illinois 60602.
In probate court, a determination will be made if your loved one's Last Will and Testament (if one exists) is valid and if ruled valid, the named Executor will be appointed.
If no will exists or the existing will is ruled invalid, your loved one's estate will be governed by Illinois intestacy laws and the court will appoint an Administrator.
Guardianship ensures that there is someone in place to care for your disabled adult loved one's person and/or property and finances (estate) in the event of his or her incapacitation.
Guardianship can also provide for your minor child's person and/or estate in the event of your incapacitation or death.
In regard to minors, there are several variations of guardianships utilized by the court.
Has not been convicted of a felony (with some subjectivity of the judge) but definitely not a felony which involved harm or threat to an elderly or disabled person, including a felony sexual offense.
