Services
Can a defendant discuss a case before their first court appearance or the pretrial conference?.
Why won't the prosecutor talk directly with a defendant who is represented by an attorney?.
Background checks are in the Bureau of Investigations Department.
If you need a copy of a police report or accident report, see Central Records Department at 504.363.5590.

The Victim/Witness Assistance Division furnishes victims, witnesses and family members of victims with needed information, advocacy and the opportunity to participate more effectively within the criminal justice system.
This program ensures that victims' rights, as provided by Louisiana law, are honored and protected.
While the division focuses primarily on victims of violent crime, it's staff of victim/witness assistance coordinators will accommodate all crime victims whose cases are being prosecuted by this office, including elder abuse and neglect, domestic abuse and child abuse victims.
Lawrence, 59, of Kenner, faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison for his conviction of first-degree rape of a victim under the age of 12.
Prosecutors were also able to present testimony from an additional victim who is now 35 years old who was abused by the defendant in a similar manner.
That victim was initially reluctant to participate in the prosecution.
While Lawrence was not charged for abusing this victim, prosecutors were allowed to present this testimony to show evidence of Lawrence's commission of another crime, wrong or act involving sexually assaultive behavior under Louisiana law as "lustful disposition" towards a child.
The Economic Crime Unit is a part of the Screening Division.
The unit fields complaints alleging various types of consumer fraud.
The Worthless Checks Section of the Economic Crime Unit aids victims of worthless check crimes by either securing restitution or processing criminal complaints against those who issue worthless checks for goods and services.
Once a complaint is filed and initial investigation has been conducted, an investigator may meet with a screening prosecutor to determine whether the complaint is civil or criminal in nature to determine the next appropriate action.
