Avant Law Firm
For more than 25 years, I have represented clients whose lives have been severely affected by the negligence of others. Some clients have been injured in car wrecks caused by intoxicated or impaired drivers. Others have been hurt by drivers texting or talking on the phone. Some clients have lost a parent, wife, husband or child because of a doctor's negligence, and still others lost the use of their limbs operating broken machinery or wearing worn safety equipment.

The circumstances that bring a client to my law firm may be different, but the anxiety of dealing with ongoing pain, lost employment, medical bills, and uncaring insurance companies is common to most all injured clients. It is my heartfelt privilege to stand up and fight to hold those responsible accountable for the damages they cause. There are a lot of lawyers, but not all lawyers are trial lawyers.

To be a trial lawyer, it takes real passion for people, an interest in their story, and a commitment to hold insurance companies, attorneys, and even judges accountable.
Services
I became passionate about using my law degree to help others.
Since becoming licensed in 1991, I've dedicated most of my career representing clients injured by the negligence of others.
Before opening my own practice in 2010, I worked in both large and small personal injury practices.
The Avant Law Firm does not advertise.
Most cases come to us as referrals from other attorneys, law firms, and former clients.
The size of our firm allows us to be selective about the cases we take and focus our attention on the needs of our clients.
Angela Shill has been a legal assistant at Avant Law Firm since 2014.
She schedules court hearings, depositions, mediations, and orders clients' medical and billing records from their medical providers.
Angela finds the legal practice fascinating.
She enjoys being a part of the law firm team and interacting daily with lawyers, court staff, and clients.
Before working at Avant Law Firm, Angela worked as a deputy clerk for eight years at the Dallas County Courthouse.
There, she prepared documents for civil law judges, filed new lawsuits, and assisted members of the public in their interaction with the courts.
Negligent driving is the failure to exercise ordinary care while driving.
This means failing to do what a careful driver would do under the same circumstances.
Examples might be following another car too closely or driving at a speed that is unsafe for the conditions.
Another example could be failing to wait for a car to pass before turning left at an intersection.
When this results in an impact with another car, and you are hurt, you may have a claim for negligence.
The distraction of smartphones has only made the roads more dangerous.
In an urban city like Dallas, we see car accidents almost every day.
As a result, we can become numb to the trauma they can cause.
But whenever a driver ignores the rules of the road, we are all at risk.
And for anyone who has been hurt in a car accident, you know how hard it is to get the medical care you need and the other driver's insurance company to pay for it.
If your injuries prevent you from working, you might want to settle your claim to pay your bills.
If you can't afford to get medical attention, you might want to settle your claim to meet your deductible.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, nearly 4,000 persons were injured or killed in pedestrian and bike accidents in 2018.
Dallas is making an effort but has a lot of work to do toward its goal to become more bike-friendly.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Dallas has built only one-quarter of the bike lanes planned between the city and Fort Worth.
Until Dallas and other cities become more bike-friendly, there remains a high risk of injury for cyclists on the road.
If you are a cyclist injured because of a reckless driver, call an attorney.
