He graduated from the University of Maine in 1977 (with High Distinction and Honors), and obtained his law degree from The George Washington University in 1980.
He was first admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1980, where he served as in-house counsel to Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, and later for State Mutual Life Insurance Company.
During this time he also earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from Boston University in 1988.
He was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1988, and can practice before all state and federal courts in Maine.
