No tolerance for Illegal Drug Activity - the Prosecutor's office is dedicated to reduce the illegal drug trafficking and use in Putnam County. Persons seeking to use or move illegal drugs in the county should take notice that Putnam County will have no tolerance for this activity.

No tolerance for Cyber Crime - the Prosecutor's office has a broad definition of "Cyber Crime": Identity theft, child pornography, cyber bullying, credit card fraud, and cyber stalking are all included in the definition. The Prosecutor understands the value and depth of information that is provided by the Internet, but believes that Cyber Crime is an offense against the community and will seek action in cases that are discovered within the county.

Mark Sorsaia started his career as an assistant prosecuting attorney in 1988, and was elected as the Prosecuting Attorney of Putnam County West Virginia in 1996.
Mark is currently serving in his fifth term as Prosecuting Attorney.
Mark has served in leadership positions in various organizations relating to the criminal justice system.
He is a past vice president of the West Virginia Association of Counties.
Mark was a Republican candidate for the Office of Governor of the State in West Virginia, during a special election held in 2011.

COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION: Previously, a common problem concerning victims of crime was that they were not informed about the status of a criminal case, dates of hearings, or how the case was to be handled in the court system.
The Victim Services Division was created to keep victims informed.
The Victim Services Coordinators will give notice of all court hearing dates, trial dates, and possible plea agreements.
They also serve as a liaison between the victim and the prosecuting attorney.
The Victim Services Coordinator will express the victim's feelings regarding how the case should be prosecuted and resolved.
Domestic Violence is a pattern of coercive behavior used to maintain power and control in a relationship.
This abuse can be physical, sexual, or emotional.
Besides your relatives, a "relationship" can include anyone you currently live with, have lived with in the past, or anyone you are or used to be intimately involved with.
In a national survey of over 6,000 American families, 50 % of the men who frequently assaulted their wives also frequently abuse their children.
Child abuse is 15 times more likely to occur in families where Domestic Violence is present.
