Lies & Bullis, Attorneys at Law, was founded in 1983 when partner Steven Lies opened his own law firm, after spending ten years practicing in Wahpeton.
Lies, a former North Dakota Deputy Secretary of State, and his office staff of one full-time and one part-time secretary moved into their newly constructed building at 610 Second Avenue North, Wahpeton.
At the time, Lies Law Firm shared the office building with McDougall Realty.
In the summer of 1987, the firm acquired the former practice of longtime Breckenridge, Minnesota, attorneys George Korbel and Anthony (Tony) Gospodar.
