Services
I am a solo practitioner in Topsfield, MA, concentrating my practice in divorce and family law.
I have over 30 years of experience serving clients in all areas of family law.
I have practiced in the Massachusetts courts since 1986 and in the New Hampshire courts since 2004.
My practice areas include divorce, division of assets, alimony, child support, child custody matters, guardianship matters, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and interstate jurisdictional conflicts.
I have practiced law in both the public sector and the private sector.
In my experience, Demetra serves her clients extremely well.
She truly knows family law and the contracts/agreements that come with it.
She gave me all of the advice I needed to make the best decision for me and my children (adopted).
Throughout the time I worked with her, I always felt that Demetra presented all options to me honestly and objectively.
When I decided to go with the long shot, Demetra was very frank with me that the likelihood of the outcome I wanted was slim.
But Demetra gave it her all, even when opposing counsel submitted her response at the last possible minute.
When getting a divorce, you and your spouse must be prepared to discuss property division (assets and liabilities), child support, parenting plans, alimony, medical insurance, life insurance and other family-related and financial issues.
Attorney Pontisakos has experience in handling a variety of complex divorce issues, including issues involving complex income issues and the division of assets.
Asset division in divorce cases may require business valuations or real estate appraisals or the division of retirement assets using Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDRO).
In Massachusetts and New Hampshire, both parents have an obligation to support their children.
Both states have child support guidelines that apply to most matters related to the financial maintenance of children.
The laws of Massachusetts and the laws of New Hampshire are significantly different regarding child support.
Clients who have questions about which state law applies to their case, should contact Attorney Pontisakos, who is licensed in both states, to determine where their case should be filed.
Cases involving your children, whether divorce, paternity, guardianship or other related family law actions, often center around concerns about the time children spend with parents, each other or extended family.
Rather than custody, many jurisdictions use terms such as "primary" or "shared residence."
In addition to establishing residence for a child, there is usually a need to establish a parenting schedule, which can vary tremendously depending on the best interests of children.
Previously called "visitation, " it is more common now to talk about a "parenting plan" and "parenting time".
