Services
They recognized that the legal needs of low-income residents were not being met by the under-funded, under-staffed Legal Services of Northeast Wisconsin and other social service agencies.
They applied for a grant from the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation, a non-profit organization, to help bridge the gap between the supply (lawyers) and the demand (people who couldn't afford representation).
The attorneys were surprised when their application was favorably received, and they were more surprised to receive a substantial grant.

The father of my six year old was released from prison and granted supervised visitation even though he had no contact with my son since birth and was not allowed around children.
In a panic, unable to afford a lawyer and fearing for the safety of my child, I contacted the Legal Aid attorney who got the ball rolling right away and ensured that a guardian ad litem was assigned to my case.
As a single mother, there is nothing more important to me than my child.
