Services
The mission of Owlett & Lewis is to provide timely, efficient, thorough, and excellent legal services that are in line with your needs and accomplish your goals.
The legal process is complex and can be very confusing.
At Owlett & Lewis our goal is to "demystify" the law and help you to understand your rights and options so that we can better guide you to make the best decisions for your situation.
Our focus on client education ensures that you will receive the highest quality legal services to serve your needs and protect you both now and in the future.
Estate Administration: We use technology to efficiently administer estates in a timely manner.
Our fees for estate administration are competitive and are not based upon the size of the estate.
Estate Planning: We prepare Wills and Trusts to maximize testamentary desires while minimizing estate administration and federal and state death taxes.
Revocable Living Trusts are not recommended unless they fit the overall estate planning objectives of the client.
Trust Accounting/Investment Supervision: We analyze investment statements at cost and market values to prepare periodic investment reviews and accountings.
Business and Corporate Law: We counsel our clients on the appropriate business structure (sole proprietorship, corporation, partnership, limited partnership, limited liability company, nonprofit), tax ramifications, corporate tax and other federal, state, and local filings and compliance measures, qualifications in other states, and business name.
We regularly assist organizations with setup, growth and management issues handling a broad array of transactions for both small and large organizations.
Medicaid Planning: We counsel clients at both the pre-planning and Medicaid Application stages.
At the pre-planning stage, we advise clients on gifting and alternative ways to pay for nursing home care, including long-term care insurance.
At the Application stage, we advise clients on how to obtain financial assistance for the quality care needed, yet preserve assets for the at-home spouse.
We also assist clients in completing the Medicaid Application and represent clients at the eligibility hearing.
A Power of Attorney is a written document in which you appoint someone (an agent) to act on your behalf and manage your affairs.
You can have two (2) separate and distinct Powers of Attorney, one specifically for your financial matters (Financial Power of Attorney) and one specifically for your medical matters (Health Care Power of Attorney).
By having two (2) separate Powers of Attorney, you are authorizing one person or persons to act with regard to your financial matters, i.e., banking transactions, sale of stocks and bonds, etc.; and a different person or persons to act with regard to your medical decisions, i.e., power to authorize medical or surgical procedures, power to authorize your admission to a nursing home.
