Gates graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1978 and from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (Computer Science) in 1982.
While attending college, Attorney Gates received an Air Force Scholarship and upon graduation was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Air Force. Atty. Gates served as a KC-135 Navigator from 1982 -1988. Gates, offered the opportunity to take over the family business, resigned his Air Force Commission as a captain and entered law school at Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, PA.
Gates graduated and was admitted to practice law in 1991. Formerly Gates & Mooney, in 1997 the partners, Samuel K. Gates & John J. Mooney, III ended their association and Gates & Gates was formed.
