Divorce begins when one spouse files a Petition for Dissolution with the appropriate county court.
In the 7th Judicial District which includes Montrose, Delta, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties the current cost to file the Petition is $230.00.
A summons will be issued and the Family Court Facilitator will set an initial court date called a Mandatory Initial Conference which requires both spouses to be in attendance.
Prior to this hearing you may have to have your spouse formally served.
The purpose of the Mandatory Initial Conference is to set initial deadlines and a Temporary Orders Hearing if such a hearing has been requested.
