Choosing the right lawyer to guide you through the divorce process can be difficult.
Even if you have been referred to a specific attorney by someone you trust, it is still important to do your research.
Below are questions to consider when deciding if an attorney is qualified to handle your family law matter.
How much of your time is dedicated to the practice of family law and how long have you been practicing?.
The issues in family law cases are complex and diverse.
A family law attorney must have a strong knowledge of state laws and county rules applicable to child custody, the various financial aspects of divorce (property division, alimony and post-separation support, child support) and domestic violence.
The information below is not intended to be nor should it be interpreted as legal advice; and does not create an attorney-client relationship.
You have a confidential relationship that is protected by the attorney-client privilege.
As such, you cannot be forced to reveal what you and your attorney discuss.
However, no such confidential relationship exists between your attorney and your family or friends, so be careful how much information you share.
As technology continues to change and become more advanced, there are various risks that can negatively impact one's case.
Before hiring an attorney to handle the sensitive and personal aspects involved in a divorce, child custody or other family law case, it is important to have the right fit between a client and attorney.
We believe that the best way to ensure the beginning of a strong attorney-client relationship is for you to meet with one of our attorneys and provide us with comprehensive information regarding your specific legal situation.
This allows us to gain a clear understanding of your family law issues and also provides you with an opportunity to get to know the attorney and understand exactly how he or she can help you.
While we value education and experience at Hatcher Law Group, we also believe the qualities of empathy and self-motivation are essential attributes for any family law attorney.
Upon graduating from law school, a different component of education is just beginning for a new, practicing attorney.
We pride ourselves on the mentoring and training we provide our lawyers so they have a strong foundation to develop into confident and knowledgeable advocates for their clients.
Hatcher Law Group also believes the bedrock of any truly successful law firm is its legal support staff and administrative team.
