Nate Legue is an award-winning journalist who left a successful career in newspapers to pursue law.
He brings the same tenacity, smarts and thirst for truth he developed as an investigative reporter to advocate for his clients every day.
After graduating from the University of Iowa College of Law, he worked as a law clerk for the Seventh Judicial District of Iowa.
There, he helped the state court judges research the law and draft rulings and gained a command of the legal issues that affect every case.
Breakups, custody battles and intrafamily disputes are some of the hardest personal and legal challenges a person can face.
When a relationship or marriage comes to an end, you may have questions about legal rights, care of children and dividing assets and debts.
At Legue Law, we can guide you through these difficult times to achieve the best possible outcome for you and your children.
Divorce is one of the most difficult personal challenges you can face.
It can be an emotional nightmare, filled with anger, depression, anxiety, and uncertainty.
A marriage is a legal arrangement sanctioned and governed by the laws of each state.
When a marriage ends, the parties must satisfy the legal requirements to obtain a divorce.
Iowa, like nearly all states, uses a "no-fault" standard in divorces, meaning that the only fact that must be proven in court to dissolve a marriage is that the relationship has broken down to the point that it is very unlikely it can be repaired.
The most difficult portion of any breakup or divorce is determining the care of children.
Often a parent may try to use the custody dispute to "get back at" the other parent by interfering with visits, withholding the children and even worse.
Although Iowa law is becoming more receptive to equal shared care, sometimes the children are best served by living with one parent the majority of the time.
Resolving the thorny questions of custody and parenting time - and going to court when necessary - is what Legue Law can do for you.
If you care for children in the state of Iowa, you are entitled to financial support from their other parent.
If you are ordered to provide this financial support, you are entitled to have it calculated based on your actual income and ability to pay.
Child support applies in every case involving children, regardless of income or lack thereof.
Both parents have a legal obligation to financially support their children.
When the parents are living together, they naturally share this burden by providing food, shelter and other necessities to themselves and their kids.
