Services
Floyd and Bernard ("Budd") Sarisohn founded Carner & DeVita nearly half a century ago.
Although our firm has grown in size over the years, we take pride in having personal relationships with our clients.
We are dedicated to responsive service - making certain that we are always fully prepared to meet the needs of each client.
In addition, we are committed to working diligently in the best interests of every client we represent.
Perhaps that explains why many of our clients have looked to us for legal advice for decades, and have counted on us to be their advocate again and again.
Founded in 1957, our firm first opened its doors for business in a small two-room office on Jericho Turnpike in Commack.
Brothers Floyd and Budd Sarisohn were at the forefront of a wave of new, young homeowners who helped convert Commack from a sleepy agricultural community, to the busy and desirable suburban destination that it is today.
With only a few other law firms in the area, the Sarisohn brothers helped many families move into the neighborhood and establish new businesses.
They became known for being accessible, involved in the community and assisting clients in all areas of the law.
Unfortunately, this young mother of two suffered a terrible head injury with brain damage, as well as multiple fractures throughout her body.
The money will help care for her and her children.
This case arose from the 9/11 WTC disaster and resulted in the award of $5.3 million in damages to two Long Island families secured by our attorneys for wrongful death losses sustained in the attack on the World Trade Center.
The case was tried by our office in Nassau County on behalf of a 72-year old man with diabetic neuropathy who had to undergo knee surgery due to the delayed diagnosis of a leg fracture.
If you have a viable claim, you would retain - or hire - the firm by way of a Retainer Agreement.
Ordinarily, personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee Retainer.
That means attorney fees are due only if there is a recovery on your claims.
The traditional fee for lawyers to handle such cases is one-third (33.33%) of the sum recovered, after deducting expenses necessary for the prosecution of your case.
Thirty-three and one-third (33 1/3) percent of the sum recovered as legal fees, whether recovered by suit, settlement or otherwise, plus all costs, disbursements and expenses.
If you are the injured party, an attorney will help you determine whether or not you have a strong claim.
There are several factors that must be carefully considered in a legal framework, such as whether a person or business was liable or "at fault", whether you have suffered "damages", and whether the party who injured you as the ability to pay for your damages.
Your attorney may be able to collect money for you for lost time from work, medical bills, pain and suffering and other expenses associated with the injury.
