I believe in leaving a legacy, and I believe in the importance of preserving the legacy of the people you love.
Kristin Waters Sullivan is a true Birmingham native, and she loves everything about her city - especially its people.
She is an active member of her community, the Birmingham Bar Association and the Alabama State Bar.
Kristin attended the University of Alabama as a National Merit Scholar, and she graduated from the Honors College there with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science before attending the University of Alabama School of Law, where she attained both her Juris Doctor and her LL.M. (Master of Laws) in Taxation, with a concentration in Estate Planning.
Initiating or updating an estate plan can be sought for a number of reasons-with significant life change being a main precursor.
Multiple life shifts can call for estate planning, including marriage, divorce, children, second marriages, newly blended households, and spousal loss.
But while these major life changes make estate planning all the more necessary, they are by no means exclusive.
In fact, people in virtually every season and walk of life can benefit from sound estate planning.
All this said, estates shouldn't be taken lightly.
You might be wondering: what exactly is probate?
Probate is a legal process whereby the validity and legality of a last will and testament is verified before it can be executed.
In all cases, proof of death is required, and while the issuer of a death certificate may vary from state to state, it is the document that begins the process of settling the estate of a person who has passed.
And the distribution of the balance of assets (cash or fixed) as directed by wills, or agreed upon closing of the estate.
Legacy and estate planning are essential in fulfilling your wishes.
A proactive approach ensures that the unforeseen won't dictate the future.
Contact Kristin Waters Sullivan in Birmingham, Alabama to get estate matters in order while timing is opportune.
Delaying in planning your estate does not serve your, or your loved ones', best interests.
Far too often, Alabamians pass intestate (in other words, without a will).
In so many of these cases, the loved ones left have to grapple with not only grief but getting finances in order as well.
