Biography: I have been practicing law in the Baltimore metropolitan area since 1985 with a focus on the needs of businesses and the people who operate them.
Most of my clients are owner-operated businesses, where the owners have a personal stake in their business outcomes every day.
My clients do business in a broad range of commerce, including health care, insurance, hospitality and food service, medical and dental practices, commercial day care, higher education, and commercial real estate.
My clients are more than corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies - they are the people who risk it all every day trying to succeed in their business.
Boy's Hope/Girls Hope of Baltimore provides a safe and stable home setting four young adults from difficult personal and residential circumstances.
I have been a regular volunteer who has provided mentoring to young men in a variety of ways: assisting with college visits, driving instruction, and providing twice-monthly meals, conversation and camaraderie that young people need in order to succeed.

Maryland Lawyers for the Arts provides free legal representation for income.
The business owner faces challenges from a wide range of legal and commercial disciplines every day.
A focus of my practice is helping clients start their own businesses.
I review the client's business goals and advise on the client's threshold issues: entity formation and choice, (LLCs, corporation, or limited partnerships), business risks, contract preparation, and the regulatory environment.
Purchasing a franchise or pre-existing business?
I can review the documents and examine the legal structure and health of the seller's business.
Part of my work representing my business clients has also been assisting them in planning for the long-term future, including their wills, advanced directives and powers of attorney.
These documents must be tailored to the individual needs of the client.
Using forms available on the internet is dangerous for many reasons.
For example, some forms may not be valid in Maryland, most people don't know how to properly execute (sign and witness) a will and advanced directive, and most importantly, in order to meet an individual family's needs, these documents must be tailored to your age, your stage in life, your goals and the needs of your children and grandchildren.
Aside from delivering their products and services, my clients tell me that the most challenging aspect of their business life is dealing with employees.
Employment Law is diverse and its principals arise from many aspects of the law: contracts, wage payment statutes, civil rights laws, privacy rights, healthcare law, tax and insurance law, among others.
Many business owners are not aware of the vast scope of employment law and the circumstances in which employment law should factor into business decision making.
