Our mission is to expand access to Justice by mobilizing, training, and connecting attorneys to pro bono clients. Are you ready to volunteer? Connect. Counsel. Serve. Why Pro Bono? How is Pro Bono defined - and why does it matter? The Greater Richmond Bar Foundation (GRBF) serves the public and the legal profession by supporting, facilitating, and promoting the delivery of pro bono legal services.
If you are ready to volunteer, we can connect you with current opportunities. If you need help getting started, we will connect you with training and mentoring. Let's work together to improve access to the Justice system. The Triage Project is the country's first effort to directly support Legal Aid, with volunteer attorneys taking legal aid referrals in high need practice areas.
The Pro Bono Clearinghouse connects experienced transactional attorneys with nonprofits in need of legal counsel. To help address the Eviction Crisis in Richmond, the Eviction Diversion Program engages volunteers to serve as neutral conciliators in unlawful detainer (eviction) cases.

We help attorneys do pro bono.
In Central Virginia, GRBF works with legal aid organizations, local government agencies, and community organizations to assess needs for pro bono services and then connects lawyers to these opportunities to serve.
We believe that access to justice should not depend on income, and a just legal system produces outcomes based on the law and equity, not personal wealth.

The Pro Bono Triage program was created by the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation (GRBF), Central Virginia Legal Aid Society (CVLAS) and "Firms in Service", 12 Richmond law firms and legal departments, to expand the provision of civil legal services beyond the capacity of local legal aid programs.
This innovative Private Bar led pro bono project identifies "Triage Champions" in critical substantive law areas where CVLAS lacked the resources to provide full representation.
These Triage Champions recruit and train like-minded pro bono volunteers to join their virtual law firms in their respective practice areas.

One of GRBF's signature programs, The Pro Bono Clearinghouse, was established in 2001 to provide free legal services to Virginia 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
Nonprofits often deal with many of the same complex legal issues that for-profit organizations do but lack resources to find and retain appropriate counsel.
That's where the Clearinghouse helps.
Our virtual law firm makes it easy for experienced attorneys to connect with nonprofits in need of legal assistance, so that the nonprofit can focus more of their time and resources on their charitable purpose.

A few hours of pro bono work can be life changing.
All you need is a willingness to get involved and GRBF will provide the tools to help you be successful.
There is nothing more rewarding than helping a family remain in their home.
It's really important to understand the issues of the people that you are helping.
It gives you the opportunity to be compassionate and to see in real time how you are changing people's lives.
When you are underwater and you are facing homelessness, it is the biggest relief to have assistance, and I know that at a personal level.
