Services
Jeffrey Leiker is a former County Prosecutor who has been able to devote his practice to the areas of family and juvenile law for the last several years.
Practicing exclusively within the District Court of Kansas, Mr. Leiker has developed a firm that is extremely efficient at analyzing cases within this state, specifically within the Douglas, Franklin, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami, Shawnee, and Wyandotte County District Courts.
Jeff obtained a degree in Biology from the University of Kansas in 1998, and he obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the Washburn University of Law in 2001.
If you have been living in marriage for a period of 60 days within the State of Kansas, you are entitled to have your marriage dissolved by Kansas if you so petition.
Most Kansas divorces are initiated under "no fault" grounds or what Courts refer to as "incompatibility."
Child custody issues are often included in divorce matters, but may also involve separate jurisdictional grounds.
Along with the obvious objective of having your marriage officially dissolved by filing a divorce, the Court will generally determine issues including marital property, debt allocation, spousal support/alimony, child custody and support.
The adoption of a child is an incredible responsibility to undertake, and something that people choose to do under a number of different circumstances.
And because of the gravity of the situation, the Kansas Courts will take great pains to ensure that not only is this measure in the best interest of the child, but that it is in your interest as well.
This is not something that a person can erase a few months later.
In some adoptions, a proposed adoptive resource will have the CINC (Child in Need of Care) Court's permission to adopt a child whose parents have already lost or relinquished their parental rights.
The skill to successfully navigate the appellate process is entirely different than the knowledge required to be successful at the trial stage and is actually a relatively rare practice among most attorneys.
The chances of a Court of Appeal overruling a lower District Court are often very low.
This is why it is so important to consult with an attorney who has proven multiple successes at this level of litigation.
Normally you have a matter of days to file your official notice of appeal after a final judgment is entered, so make sure you understand your deadlines.
Protection from abuse/stalking orders can carry very similar results as a dissolution of marriage.
The reason is because the Judge can make orders regarding the same types of issues (child support, child custody, possession of the marital home, general restraining orders for you and your children, etc.).
They can be extremely helpful to a person who is a victim of abuse or staking and is in need of emergency orders of protection for themselves and for their children.
Alternatively, these orders can be quite dangerous to a person who has been wrongfully accused of abuse or stalking, as the resulting orders of protection from a Court may have lasting effects.
