I stand by my clients from start to finish, from the kitchen table where they dreamed up their company, to the boardroom, and to the court room. Serving the startup, local business, corporate and consumer legal needs of Austin and the surrounding areas. Choosing the right lawyer is one of the most important decisions you'll make. Over 20 years of broad experience covering general counsel, contract review, forming, selling or buying a business, partnership disputes, intellectual property, and litigation.
My small business, startup and entrepreneurial clients need someone who gets what they're doing, someone they are on a first name basis with, someone they can call and get through to when they have a problem or a question. Andy Simmons interviewed by Arts+Labor for legal perspective in the Sailor Jerry intellectual property dispute.

People used to call what I do "general counsel" but these days that term is often used by lawyers who never go to court, and that's not me.
I go to court a lot, so I prefer to call myself a "business lawyer" who has a wide range of both litigation and transactional experience.
My litigation experience over the years ranges from breach of contract, products liability, personal injury, trademark litigation, securities fraud, consumer protection, real estate and employment law.
I have also worked in all of these areas of law on the transactional side, such as drafting contracts, setting up companies, obtaining trademark registrations, drafting employee handbooks and reviewing leases.

Answer: We can assist you in selecting the appropriate entity for your business, the formation and operation of the business as well as maintenance, contracts, and litigation.
Texas has a number of business entities to chose from, and we can advise you on which might be best for you.
Answer: Certainly, you could do it yourself, but self-service incorporation or do-it-yourself legal kits might not be the most cost effective move.
We are sensitive to the need of startups to save money, but remember that you get what you pay for.

If you just want to incorporate for dirt cheap, you can get the basic certificate of formation for free on the Texas Secretary of State's website.
Fill it out, file it with the Secretary of State, pay the filing fee and you're incorporated.
Except there is more to it and you've already done it wrong, in my opinion.
That basic form only meets minimum requirements.

We perform trademark searches and trademark applications, usually on a flat fee basis of $1,000 per single class trademark.
This flat fee includes the required federal filing fee of $275 per class.
If there are multiple classes of goods or services, our legal fee does not go up, we just add on at cost the additional federal filing fee required for each additional class.
Thus, for a two class application, our fee would be $1,275.00.
If the application is an intent to use application, we just add on the additional $100 intent to use filing fee at the time it is filed.

The firm continues to represent both small and large construction companies in a wide range of construction law matters.
