She graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University in 1974 and from The Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in 1983.
While in law school, Courtney was the Writing Editor for the Cumberland Law Review.
Admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1984, and to the Tennessee Bar in 1990, Courtney began practicing with her father and brother and continues after 33 years to practice law with her brother, F. Tucker Burge.
