Devlin Farmer's book Representing Yourself In Court, has been reviewed as a "a resource-rich tool that offers [self represented litigants] insight into complex court processes and the tricks of the trade used by lawyers" and "essential." One reviewer said, "I wish I had this book when I was a self-represented litigant." As the book discusses, we recommend strategically seeking legal advice from a lawyer when representing yourself.

Services
I can assist you with all family law matters whether you are creating a new family unit or dissolving a past relationship.
I assist clients to settle their family law matters through negotiation, mediation or collaborative law.
I have represented parents and children in Hampshire's new Family Resolutions Specialty Court (FRSC), which offers a kinder and more supported alternative to traditional court.
FRSC also recently appointed me as a Team Coordinator.
I strongly support FRSC as an alternative to court.
My legal career started with a passion for helping people in need.
After graduating from the University of Ottawa in 1999, I returned to my home province of British Columbia, Canada to article (apprentice) with legal aid.
My first posting as a newly minted Barrister & Solicitor was at the start of the Alaska Highway in northern British Columbia.
Right away, I was thrown into early morning bail hearings, arguing appeals, conducting family and criminal trials, appearing in Provincial and Superior Court, managing a legal aid office and working closely with First Nations and other community groups to improve access to legal aid.
Since beginning my legal career in legal aid in 1999, I have thought of the role of a lawyer as being a guide through the law.
Part of that role is being able to communicate how to navigate that maze without a lawyer.
My new book Representing Yourself In Court is the culmination of years of public legal education.
It is available in both US and Canadian editions.
Practicing law is a dialogue: with clients, with the mentors who have guided me to be a better lawyer and mediator and with myself, understanding my capacities, my limits and how I can be most effective.
Lawyers usually charge an hourly rate and are retained for the whole case.
Similarly, mediators generally charge by the hour.
But I offer two ways to pay: hourly or, because I believe you don't always need a lawyer or mediator, a flat fee where you hire me for a specific task only, like reviewing a separation agreement or helping you prepare for court.
Attorney Consult: Here's your chance to talk to a lawyer and to begin to learn how the law applies to your situation.
We will discuss your legal options: Is collaborative law, for example, right for you?
I'm located above The Iron Horse in downtown Northampton.
The building has a ramp and an elevator.
There is some on street parking but I recommend parking at the EJ Gare Parking Garage in downtown Northampton and walking through Thorne's Marketplace.
