I understand that submission of an online form does not constitute an attorneyclient relationship. The attorneys at Sammis Law Firm focus exclusively on criminal defense in the greater Tampa Bay area. For the past ten years, our main office has been located in the same building in downtown Tampa, FL, just a few blocks from the courthouse. Our second office is located in New Port Richey in Pasco County, FL.
We provide a free consultation to discuss the case over the phone, using a remote video conferencing service like Zoom, or during a face-to-face consultation in our office. Same-day consultations are available. During the consultation, we can discuss the facts of the case, the best defenses, and how to protect your legal rights at each stage of the case.
Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you need help on the weekend or after business hours, leave a message with our answering service. One of our attorneys is on call after hours. If you leave a message, the on-call attorney will call you back.

After your arrest, the clerk's office will schedule your first court date called the "arraignment" in front of the judge.
For individuals that do not have an attorney, the court will read the charges and ask the person to enter a plea - either guilty, no contest or not guilty.
A conviction means you can never seal or expunge that mug shot, arrest record, or court record of the conviction.
Entering a plea at arraignment is a bad idea because you cannot obtain a hardship license until after you have completed DUI school.

Florida law distinguishes between civil traffic infractions and criminal traffic violations.
Civil traffic infractions are only punishable by a fine.
Examples of civil traffic violations include a speeding ticket or a citation for running a red light.
On the other hand, criminal traffic violations can be classified as either a felony or a misdemeanor, both of which are punishable by incarceration in jail or prison.
Examples of criminal traffic violations include DUI, driving on a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, fleeing to elude, or even vehicular manslaughter.

Chapter 893, F.S., contains different provisions criminalizing the possession, sale, purchase, manufacture, and delivery of controlled substances.
F.S., provides penalties for drug trafficking offenses which include the minimum mandatory sentences and fines.
Those penalties for drug trafficking crimes increase in severity as the quantity of the controlled substance involved increases.
The defenses for drug crime cases are often complex.
Your entire case could be won or lost depending on whether a viable motion to suppress evidence is filed and litigated.

Update: Effective on 7/1/19, the State Hemp Program (2019 CS/CS/SB 1020) took effect.
Now that hemp is legal under Florida law, it raises many new defenses for fighting possession of cannabis charges.
Since hemp became legal, prosecutors are dropping charges because of bigger problems with the sniff or smell search, presumptive roadside tests for probable cause, or evidentiary problems with proving the THC level of the cannabis or marijuana (to distinguish it from legal hemp).
Although possession of cannabis is legal for recreational purposes in many states, Florida law still imposes harsh penalties for the possession of marijuana.
