Michael R. Sleister was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1953.
After graduating from high school in 1971, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1975.
In 1979, he graduated with honors with a psychology degree from the University of Georgia.
In 1981, he graduated with a master's degree in public administration with honors from the University of Georgia.
Before entering the University of Georgia Law School in 1985, he held jobs in both the private and public sector.
In 1988, he graduated in the top third of his class from the University of Georgia Law School and since then, he has been admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in the State of Georgia.
