Services
Scott G. Beattie heads up the firm's Estate Planning and Tax Planning Departments.
Since 1991, Beattie has designed and implemented hundreds of estate and wealth preservation plans for his clients, both for high net worth individuals and people of more modest means.
Mr. Beattie enjoys a challenge.
His broad knowledge of estate, gift, and property tax laws make him particularly well suited to serve clients who own real estate, family farms, commercial properties and family businesses.
In the areas of Wealth Preservation and Wealth Transfer Planning, Mr. Beattie's work ranges from basic estate planning (such as the design and drafting of Wills, Living Trusts, Corporations, Partnerships, and LLCs), to more advanced planning strategies using Irrevocable Gift Trusts, Grantor Trusts, Charitable Trusts and Foundations, Intra-family Sales, and other advanced strategies and solutions.
In the area of Real Estate Law, Mr. Beattie and his team works with clients on property tax issues, acquisitions and sales, commercial loan refinancings and workouts, tax deferred exchanges and tax efficient ownership structures.
Emphasis is placed on tax efficient ownership structures with consideration given not just to one area of tax (income tax or estate tax), but to all areas affecting the client's real estate portfolio (income tax, estate tax, and property tax) so that the overall results of all these taxes are addressed to provide the most value for the client and his or her family.
In recent years Mr. Beattie developed the theme of "Taming Your Property Taxes" using various strategies to find a silver lining for clients who acquired real estate during the high value period of 2000 through 2008.
By restructuring client real estate holdings, Mr. Beattie's strategies produce long term property tax savings.
For example, in California for a property purchased for $5.0 Million in 2005 with current value of $3.0 Million, the annual savings can be anywhere from $20,000 to $36,000 per year over the holding period of the property after restructuring.
As a former California State Assemblyman and California Department of Food & Agriculture Deputy Secretary, Mr. Aghazarian maintains a vast experience and knowledge of the inner workings of government.
Whether a client is seeking to affect public policy or interact with governmental regulators, Mr. Aghazarian is dedicated to bringing his expertise to bear in achieving a successful result.
Specifically, Mr. Aghazarian can ensure that clients are effectively represented in the areas of strategic planning, policy development and analysis, legislative and administrative advocacy, messaging and coalition building at all levels of government.
