Services
Watson Burns, PLLC was founded by Frank L. Watson, III and William F. Burns, who first met in 1996 while working as trial lawyers for one of Tennessee's oldest and most prestigious defense firms.
In 2005, they joined forces based on their shared vision of creating a boutique trial firm focused on winning high stakes civil litigation in the most efficient manner.
To achieve this goal, the firm has maintained a strict policy of accepting and litigating only a handful of cases at any given time, with both partners evaluating and "signing off" on each new matter.
Collaboration between law firms on contingent fee cases is common in some areas of practice.
In the personal injury area, for example, there has long been a network of plaintiffs' law firms that refer large personal injury cases to each other, in exchange for a share in the contingent fee.
We routinely enter into these types of arrangments on defective products, wrongful death, class acton and legal malpractice cases.
If you have a client with such a case, please call us and we will be glad to help and will enter into a fee-sharing contract with you and your client.
We generally handle most of our cases on a contingency fee basis for individuals and companies suing others for causing some form of physical or economic harm.
As such, we don't get paid any legal fee unless we obtain a recovery.
If we don't win, we don't get paid - it's that simple.
The next time you go to your doctor with an ailment, tell him or her that you will only pay for your treatment if they are successful in substantially curing your illness and see what happens.
You will probably get laughed out of the room.
Mr. Watson, formerly a partner with Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, the largest law firm in Tennessee, has been trying cases for 22 years, having represented clients before courts throughout the nation, including federal and state courts in Arkansas, Alabama, California, Illinois, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington.
He has substantial experience representing both plaintiff and defendants in complex/multi-district litigation and class action cases in the areas of securities fraud, antitrust violations, consumer products, FINRA arbitrations, and corporate governance claims as well as significant personal injury matters involving defective products and trucking companies.
William F. Burns has been litigating cases for 18 years in federal and state courts throughout Tennessee and the nation.
After completion of a judicial clerkship with the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Mr. Burns became a trial attorney with Waring Cox, PLLC in Memphis, the oldest law firm in Tennessee.
The Waring Cox firm traced its roots back to the pre-Civil War era and employed a number of storied Tennesseans.
Because of his willingness to learn on the fly, Mr. Burns became a "fixer" at the firm and took on many matters outside the expertise of the typical "big firm" defense lawyer.
