Quincy attorney Thomas R. Mullen may help you obtain Medicaid without spending down most, if not all, your hard-earned lifetime of savings. Most people are unaware of this option, and this is why Tom dedicates himself to helping seniors preserve their assets. He has been an attorney for over 40 years; and he has nearly 30 years of experience using the available techniques and strategies which allow seniors in nursing homes to protect their assets and keep their homes.

For married couples, Tom has been known to reduce the payment to a nursing home from an average of $13,000 to $1,500 per month-often less-even if one of them is already in a nursing home! In addition, if you are not in a nursing home, you can still give money away despite what well-intentioned friends or professionals may tell you. Elder Law is a highly specialized practice area that works with clients facing a constantly changing set of laws.

Services
Americans are living longer than ever before.
And while your elderly clients or friends may not want to think about it now, the reality is that many of them will eventually require long-term or nursing home care.
In fact, nearly one in two women and one in four men find themselves in nursing homes at some point in their lives.
Unfortunately, the high cost of nursing home care is always climbing higher, averaging approximately $9,000 per month in Massachusetts.
Worse, Medicare will not pay for it.
Quincy Attorney Thomas R. Mullen will work with you to set up a individualized Medicaid Plan.
Medicaid planning is a legal process of protecting property and assets from the high cost of nursing home care.
It is a specialized area of law that is increasingly important, not only because Americans are living longer, but also due to recent harsh changes in the law.
The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 has made qualifying for Medicaid assistance without suffering severe financial penalties more difficult than ever.
The Medicaid law provides special protections for the well spouse of a nursing home resident to make sure she has the minimum support needed to continue to live in the community.
The so-called "spousal protections" work this way: If the Medicaid applicant is married, the countable assets of both the community spouse and the institutionalized spouse are totaled as of the date of "institutionalization", which is the day on which the ill spouse enters either a hospital or a long-term care facility in which he or she then stays for at least 30 days.
Medicaid is like the Big Dig-a big, dark hole in the ground-a federal program administered by the state.
It covers care in a nursing home for those who qualify.
It also provides, among other things, health insurance to the poor of all ages and people with disabilities.
In the absence of any other public program covering long-term care, Medicaid is the default nursing home insurance of the middle class.
As for home care, Medicaid offers very little.
While Congress and the federal government set out the rules under which Medicaid operates, each state is granted the authority to enforce the rules as it interprets them.
All the other 18 places named "Quincy" used the "c" sound while we in the City of Presidents use the "zee" sound to correctly pronounce the City's name.
We are proud to say Quincy is the City of Presidents-formerly the home of the only father and son Presidents-John Adams and John Quincy Adams.
While it is true Tom Mullen and John Adams do have something in common-Tom was not a President-but both are Attorneys.
In fact, Attorney John Adams even represented the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre.
