Services
I have been practicing law for almost 40 years.
My passion for the law developed after I moved to Greenwood, South Carolina from Talhassee, Florida at a young age.
Since my move to Greenwood, I have always lived here, other than my time in college and law school.
Greenwood is my home.
Greenwoodians are my people.
However, my practice extends across the state.
I consider myself a family man.
I love my five children (some through blood, some through marriage).
Any time I can spend with my two young grandchildren brings incredible joy to me.

Every bankruptcy client I ever had meets me with three top concerns: (1) I want to protect my family, (2) I don't want to be embarrassed by bankruptcy, and (3) will I ever be able to come back from this?
You want to stop the phone calls, the knocks on the door, and the letters in the mailbox.
Attorney James C. Johnson tells all his bankruptcy clients that sometimes, you can't control your circumstances: your medical bills may have gotten out of hand, you may have accidentally over spent and have credit card debt, you may have lost your job.

The Johnson Law Firm of Greenwood has been helping clients plan their estates since the firm's opening in 1983.
Many people ask, "What is the difference between estate planning and probate?" Attorney James C. Johnson explains that estate planning is the planning of your estate so that your affairs are in order when you pass.
The goal is to minimize the amount of your estate that is lost (to creditors and the like).
Alternatively, probate in South Carolina is the administration and management of a decedent's estate; it is the opening and completing the estate after death.

If you are hurt because someone else acted wrongfully, you may have a case against that individual or their insurance company.
Many people wonder: what is a "personal injury" case.
These are just some of the cases involving torts ("personal injury" law).
While some people who call our firm may not need an attorney, we attempt to guide them in the right direction.
However, many of these personal injury cases require an experienced attorney so that the evidence is preserved, the client's rights are maintained, the client can be made whole, and the client's recovery can be exponentially benefitted.
