Mr. Slaughter moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1983 to train for the Olympic Trials.
At the same time he represented the United States in national and international competitions, he also earned his Bachelor's degree from Trinity University.
Following the 1992 Olympic Trials, Mr. Slaughter attended law school at St. Mary's University, and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1995.
From the time he joined the Texas Bar until 2004, Mr. Slaughter practiced Environmental and Public Utility Law at the TNRCC, PUC, State Office of Administrative Hearings, and in State Court.
