Jim is a graduate of Ohio University (1960) and The Ohio State University College of Law (1963) where he was a board member and case note editor of the Ohio State Law Journal.
Upon graduation from law school he joined Frederick J. Buckley as an associate lawyer.
In 1965 Fred and Jim formed a law partnership then known as Buckley & Miller.
Early in his career Jim additionally served as prosecutor and then law director for the City of Wilmington.
He has been involved in the general civil practice of law since 1963, with a present emphasis on estate and trust planning and probate court practice.
