Members of the NCDD are the most experienced DUI defense attorneys in the United States and Canada. Regardless of your location, we can connect you with a lawyer who can help you understand the drunk driving laws in your state or province and work with you to determine your best options for defense. Attorneys who are Board Certified by the NCDD can demonstrate that they have a substantive understanding of DUI laws, evidentiary issues, and effective methods of defense.

To become Board Certified, a lawyer must pass written and oral examinations that reflect the knowledge and skills needed for an enhanced level of advocacy in the field of DUI defense. In 2020, the American Bar Association approved NCDD's request to reduce the Experience Requirements specified in Certification Rule 2.1.1. First, the "look-back" period has been extended from three years to five years immediately preceding the application.

Second, alternatives for the requisite number of trials are now available as fully detailed in Certification Rule 2.1.1.
Services
Few offenses in America's criminal justice process call for greater attorney expertise than cases involving driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
DUI cases are especially complex because they require defense counsel to understand scientific, as well as legal processes.
The legal issues are wide-ranging, involving search and seizure, due process, illegal interrogation, denial of counsel, and evidentiary issues.
These legal issues intersect in a DUI case with scientific areas of expertise, such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, physiology, and toxicology, as well as pseudo-scientific areas such as field sobriety testing.
Alternatively, you may contact our Executive Director, Rhea Kirk, at (334) 264-1950 to request an application.
Upon receipt of the application forms and fees, your application will be reviewed to determine if you meet the application requirements.
If so, you will be notified of your eligibility to take the written and oral examinations.
It is strongly suggested that you review the page Preparing for the Exam.
Once you pass the examination, you will become Board Certified by the National College for DUI Defense, Inc. for five (5) years subject to the requirements of the National College for DUI Defense, Inc.

By Jonathan Dichter Continuing to Remember What Our Clients Really Need Some years ago, I wrote an article for a Washington State Defense Journal entitled "I Will Stand With You."
It is with great honor and humility that I accept this opportunity to serve you, the members, as President and Dean of the National College for DUI Defense.
I would be remiss if I did not point out the tremendous work of Dean Emeritus Doug Murphy, who was able to successfully steer the National College through the past year while the entire world was thrown into disarray.
The National College for DUI Defense was founded in 1995 upon a tradition of excellence.
While the offense of drunk driving had been in existence since as far back as the invention of the automobile, before the 1980s DUI and DWI was handled primarily by traffic lawyers (where DUI was the most serious offense) or by criminal lawyers (where DUI was one of the least serious offenses that they handled).
