John D. Freund was born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1978 and was raised in Waterloo and Dubuque. In May of 2000, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts, maxima cum laude, from Loras College, with majors in Economics and English: Writing and minors in Business and Spanish. In December of 2003, he received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law and was admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa in April of 2004.
In 2006, John was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, and he was admitted to practice in the State of Wisconsin in 2011. He is a member of the Dubuque County, Iowa State, and Wisconsin State Bar Associations and has worked on the continuing education and technology committees of the Dubuque County Bar Association.
