A loyal advocate, a confidant and friend when you most need an experienced hand to guide you. Transplanted to Northwest Florida through the United States Air Force in 1964, I have grown my roots in the South. I received my B.S. in Business from Troy State University in 1970, then completed law school at Cumberland School of Law in 1973. I am married and have raised four children who have attended public schools in both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
After admission to the Florida Bar in 1973, I was enrolled to practice in the United States District Court and Bankruptcy Court in 1974. I served on the Board of Directors of the Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association, was a certified Civil and Family Law Mediator. I began my legal career as an Assistant Public Defender representing my clients in the criminal justice system.
Most of my career as an attorney however, has been devoted to assisting families and businesses in the private sector. I pride myself in personally responding to your situation, providing you with solutions tailored to each specific case while always remaining available to serve your legal needs.

I understand your problem: Too much debt, not enough money.
It's a huge problem.
I have spent more than 40 years dealing with clients' financial issues and helping them to plan their best way forward, even when it seems like there are nothing but roadblocks ahead.
I am attorney Joel M. Cohen, and I know that some burdens can be managed, whereas others need to be set aside if you want to be able to improve your situation.
There is no shame in taking stock of your finances and making hard decisions based on your real ability to get back on track.

The snap of restraints cuffing your hands, one-way transportation in the back seat of a police cruiser and the degrading booking process are signals that a life-changing experience is in progress.
Investigators are trained in the art of interviewing and their focus is extracting statements from those suspected of crimes.
Investigators know what makes us tick, they interrogate every day and the confessions they obtain usually hold up in court.
Sometimes those confessions make the difference between a defensible case, no prosecution, not-guilty verdict or being trapped in a hopeless prosecution, doing our best for a plea.

Earlier in my career, I relished the idea of jousting with opposing attorneys in heated courtroom battles, defending the accused from oppressive authorities, government, banks, insurance companies and other Goliaths.
I still have those fires, and still advocate for the downtrodden, but these days I let the younger gladiators draw the blood.
Taking time to think about the future helps each of us to find peace of mind.
As we get older we want to know that our needs will be looked after and that we can really enjoy what should be one of the most wonderful stages on this great journey.
