A long term marriage is defined as one having a duration of 17 years or greater.
A short term marriage is defined as one having a duration of less than 7 years.
A moderate term marriage is defined as one having duration greater than 7 years but less than 17 years.

In the majority of divorce actions, the parties agree to and/or are awarded by the court SHARED PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY.
Shared parental responsibility is a court ordered relationship in which both parents retain full parental rights and responsibility with respect to their child(ren).
Both parents confer with each other so that major decisions affecting the welfare of the child(ren) will be determined jointly.
In the event the parents cannot mutually agree on any applicable major decision, the court, as part of SHARED PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY, can grant one parent ultimate decision making responsibility over various aspects of the child(ren)'s welfare.

One of the basic public policies of the State of Florida is to require a parent to provide support for his or her child(ren).
Child support is a right that belongs to the chid(ren) and as such, even the parents cannot agree to waive a party's child support obligation.
Naturally, both parents have a duty and obligation to support their child(ren).
In consideration of that, child support guidelines have been established by Florida statutes.
The parents' gross incomes, their lawful deductions, their individual health insurance costs, the health insurance costs for the child(ren) and any applicable child care costs an~ all factored into determining the amount of child support.
