That was when I discovered what I truly enjoyed about the law.
It was more than just being able to argue myself out of any debate; it was more than just being able to quote statutes or cite caselaw.
And it was certainly more than just obtaining a degree.
What I enjoyed most about the law was the ability to walk along-side friends and family that were facing some of the most stressful events in their entire life.
Not only are the events emotionally draining (a death in the family, being sued, etc.), but adding to that is the frustration of dealing with the legalities caused by that event.
It's exciting, the day you find out you're going to have a baby!
You want to do everything you can to keep your baby safe and protected - we'll even install outlet protectors before the baby can crawl, right?
It may seem weird to think about death when you've about to experience a new little person coming into the world.
But this is exactly the time, while you're hoping for the best, to plan for the worst.
Who will take care of your baby if you can't?
Will your child be provided for financially if you are no longer there?
It feels great to see your kids start their new lives as adults on their own.
But before their car even leaves the driveway, you may be getting those empty nest feelings: worried about whether they will make good decisions, whether they will create wise financial habits, whether they will eat healthy and wash their clothes regularly, whether they will stay focused in college or their work, or whether they will meet the love of their life.
If you are feeling these things, it means that it's time to start a new chapter in your life.
If you are within 2-3 years before or after retirement, you are staring down one of life's most undocumented & unscripted transitions.
Thoughts such as how will you pay the bills for the next 20, 30, or even 40 years; will your healthcare choices change; will you be able to pay for your grown children's weddings, college, grandkids' education, etc.; with a career winding down, will you feel satisfied without a daily demand on your skills; will your spouse or significant other's needs change; will taxes eat up a large chunk of your life savings; or will your nest egg be enough to keep you from becoming a burden on your kids in your later years?
If you've been retired for a while and are starting to see your grandchildren finish college or get married, you are probably beginning the next phase of life: you're a Super Senior Citizen!
Staying healthy, finding great doctors and healthcare treatment shouldn't be the worry of your day, but they are.
Maybe you're even worried about the need for more help, like from an assisted living facility or memory care home.
You never thought you'd be worried about THOSE things, yet here you are.
A few years ago, when my dad was diagnosed with a really rare form of cancer, we were all scared.
